Chambert Rosé cet été - Chambert Rosé this summer

EN: Many things happened this summer; the most important being all the work at the vineyard. As you know Chambert is working organically using biodynamics. As such all the work consists in preventing problems to occur because we can't use chemicals to fix them! Mid-July we were all on high alert as Mildew was detected in other vineyards and started on few of our leaves. Hopefully we contained it, and now all is safe until harvest (let's hope no hailstones come by).

So while waiting for harvest, we're sipping our Rosé. And if you read French, see below article and links to all the praise we received for our Rosé!

FR: Il y a eu beaucoup d'actions cet été ; en particulier un gros travail dans les vignes. Vous savez que Chambert travaille en bio (usage de la biodynamie) et donc le gros du travail consiste à prévenir des maladies car si elles arrivent...point de produits chimiques pour les stopper! Mi-Juillet nous étions en alerte maximum pour suivre l'évolution du Mildiew détecté aux alentours et sur certaines de nos feuilles. Heureusement nous avons pu contenir cela sans nuire à la récolte. Nous pouvons à présent attendre tranquillement les vendanges (en espérant ne pas voir passer de grêles).

Donc en attendant les vendanges, nous buvons de notre rosé fort apprécié et médaillé cet été; voyez plutôt:

Chambert 2008 - 16/20!

EN: Château Chambert (French's biggest Malbec producer working organically, established 1690)  is once more receiving high praise from the Revue du vin de France (RVF, 60 000 printed copies). In its July-August issue, the magazine gives Château Chambert 2008 the highest mark and praise. It is their wine of the month; and gave a 16/20 score. We definitely agree with them this is a great wine, fruit forward and very well balanced; it is issued from the young vines of 20-30 years. For more details, check the article RVF - July/August 2010

FR: Le château Chambert (le plus grand vignoble de Malbec de France travaillant en bio, établi en 1690) vient de recevoir une fois de plus les éloges de la presse professionnelle Française. Les vins de Chambert sont réputés pour leur finesse et élégance, et cette fois-ci, dans la Revue du Vin de France (RVF, tirée à 60 000 exemplaires), Chambert se retrouve Coup de Coeur RVF. Chambert 2008 - Encore!

EN: Château Chambert (French's biggest Malbec producer working organically, established 1690)  is receiving additional praise today. This is no surprise to us as we work very hard in offering the finest Cahors Malbec wines: elegant and refined. This time, it is the Chambert 2008 and Chambert 2009 (preview) that the Revue du vin de France (RVF, 60 000 printed copies) and  La Tribune (a daily newspaper focused on business and economy with 67 000 printed copies). FR: Le château Chambert (le plus grand vignoble de Malbec de France travaillant en bio, et établi en 1690) vient de recevoir une nouvelle fois de belles critiques. Ce n'est pas une surprise pour nous compte tenu de tout le travail de fond à vous offrir les plus grands vins de Cahors: élégants et raffinés. Cette fois-ci, ce sont la Revue du Vin de France (RVF, tirée à 60 000 exemplaires) et La Tribune (quotidien économique et financier tiré à 67 000 exemplaires) qui parlent de nos vins. Chambert 2008 - Preview

EN: French wine magazine 'RVF' came to Cahors this February to collect unfinished 2008 wine samples, the goal was to prepare the June issue and present the 2008 vintage trends. As we were very busy and had little time to provide the samples, we decided to only present our second wine: Chateau Chambert 2008, and keep our best wine 'Grand Vin 2008' for later time when ready. When it comes to wine tasting; no matter how important the wine critic is, we focus on quality. In February we were not ready to release the Grand Vin 2008 simply because we wanted more time to sorting our Grand Vin barrels. The interesting outcome is that while we didn't present our best wine, we still were awarded a 'great vintage' quote. So stay tuned when we release our 2008, you won't be disappointed, mark my words! FR: La Revue du Vin de France (RVF) est venue à Cahors en Février dernier pour recevoir les échantillons de nos vins 2008 non-finis. L'objectif était de déguster ces vins pour l'écriture d'un article à paraitre en Juin, détaillant la qualité du millésime. A chambert nous étions très occupé et comme très peu de temps était laissé pour livrer les bouteilles, nous avons décidé de ne donner que notre second vin, le château Chambert 2008, et garder le Grand Vin 2008 pour plus tard. En effet nous voulions plus de temps pour finaliser les choix des barriques à assembler pour finaliser le Grand Vin. Pour nous la qualité passe avant tout, et jamais nous ne réaliserons un vin dans la précipitation. Il est intéressant de noter que malgré cela, la RVF a trouvé notre vin et millésime comme "grande réussite"; alors que penser quand le Grand Vin 2008 arrivera?! Vous verrez bien, nous vous disons simplement que vous n'allez pas regretter d'avoir attendu, et comme à notre habitude, Chambert va vous émerveiller! ! Lire la note RVF

EN: Chambert Rosé 2009 just released...and already in the press; but not just any press: the health newspaper read in Paris by many doctors. Chambert, the new drug? At least it won't give you a headache as we are using extremely low levels of sulfites. See all magazines that praise our great Rosé!

EN: Yes we're proud about our wines and we do believe they are great. Every year we work hard to improve and express the very best our terroir offers. So when respected wine experts praise Chambert we can only smile and appreciate this very moment! Today, UK again is praising us (after Tim Atkin and the wine gang in February, and The World of Fine Wine magasine alos in Februrary) ; it is Steve Spurrier in his Decanter column of May 2010 that comments Chambert Grand Vin 2007 as a a truly 'grand vin' classy Cahors. FR: Bien sur que nous sommes fier de nos vins et nous croyons en nous. Chaque année nous travaillons dur pour exprimer l'excellence de notre terroir. Aussi, quand la presse professionnelle fait l'éloge de Chambert, nous laissons paraitre un grand sourire de satisfaction! Aujourd'hui encore, c'est l'Angleterre qui fait les louanges de notre Grand Vin 2007 (après Tim Atkin et le wine Gang en février ainsi que le 'World of Fine Wine magasine' aussi en Février). C'est Steve Spurrier dans sa colonne de Mai 2010 du magasine Decanter qui classe Chambert Grand Vin comme un véritable 'Grand vin' de grande classe; une lapalissade que l'on aime lire et relire! Cahors vs Argentina : « Coup de Cahors, or the hand of God? »

EN: The highly famous and respected World of Fine Wine magazine just released it's March 2010 edition with 'the best Malbec tasting ever held in London'. The line up included many of the leading names from the twin poles of Malbec production, namely: Achaval Ferrer, Bodega Noemía, Catena Zapata, Trapiche, Yacochuya, Cobos, Alfa Crux and Alta Vista from Argentina and Château du Cèdre, Clos Triguédina, Château de Chambert, Château Lamartine, Clos de Gamot and Domaine La Berangeraie from Cahors. Tim Atkin, MW: "I expected the Argentinean wines to trounce their French rivals in a blind tasting, partly because they are the sort of reds that don’t need tannin-taming food to show at their best. Chateau Chambert Grand Vin 2007: 18.5/20 (Tim Atkin), 17/20 (Anthony Rose)

FR: L'édition 'World of Fine Wine' de Mars 2010 (magasine de renommée mondiale dans le milieu professionnel) inclue 'la meilleure dégustation de Malbec jamais réalisée à Londres'. Dans la dégustation se trouvaient de nombreux leaders des deux pôles mondiaux de production de Malbec: Achaval Ferrer, Bodega Noemía, Catena Zapata, Trapiche, Yacochuya, Cobos, Alfa Crux and Alta Vista pour l'Argentine et Château du Cèdre, Clos Triguédina, Château de Chambert, Château Lamartine, Clos de Gamot and Domaine La Berangeraie pour Cahors. Tim Atkin, Master of Wine écrit: 'Je pensais que les vins argentins allaient laminer leur rivaux Français dans une dégustation à l'aveugle car ils ont des tanins naturellement fondus. Mais ça été totalement différent. Les vins argentins occupent deux des tris premières places, mais Cahors occupe quatre places du top dix!'

FR: Chambert 2007 est un exemple d'excellence de Malbec de Cahors. Joanna Simon, journaliste anglaise (Sunday Times, BBC 4,Classic FM magazine, Decanter, Jamie, Harpers Wine & Spirit, Square Meal and Waitrose Food Illustrated) recommande fortement nos vins. EN: Two Cahors to convert the reluctant. Anyone who is a fan already (or becomes one) should consider laying down some of Château de Chambert’s excellent 2007 Grand Vin, even though owner Philippe Lejeune and consultant Stephane Derenoncourt say that the 2008 wines are better and the 2009s better again. The 2007 will easily keep another ten years.

Ink-dark, dense and ripe, with a plum and blackberry perfume, light smoky oak, thick but ripe, velvety tannins and a mineral-fresh finish. Try it with confit de canard (a doddle to make, by the way) or a steak. Or cellar it for another five or more years. 13% abv.

Chambert 2005: Washington (USA)

FR: Hier, l'inter-profession des vins de Cahors (UIVC) a organisé avec la French Wine Society une dégustation des vins de Cahors à l’Ambassade de France à Washington (Etats-Unis). Cette dégustation, intitulée "Cahors: The French Malbec, Introducing the Malbec of Kings, Popes and Czars", a fait salle comble ! Une centaine de professionnels du vin basés à Washington s'y sont en effet inscrits. Le château Chambert 2005 faisait partie de la sélection des vins présentés. Cahors continue son travail de fond aux USA pour faire connaitre l'excellence de son offre, Bravo! Si vous ne connaissez pas les X siècles d'histoire de Chambert, c'est l'occasion de lire ici!

EN: Yesterday, the Cahors wine marketing team of UIVC has organized a Cahors tasting at the Washington French Embassy. This tasting named "Cahors: The French Malbec, Introducing the Malbec of Kings, Popes and Czars" was a great success with over 100 professionals that registered. Chambert 2005 was part of the happy few Cahors presented. Cahors keeps educating the US market to assess our great Malbec offering, Bravo! Chambert 2007 Scores ( Ratings)

FR: Le Chambert 2007 va sortir à la vente dans quelques semaines et déjà, il occupe une place d'honneur dans deux grandes revues:

Chambert entre dans le guide Bettane & Desseauve (Chambert enters prestigious French guide Bettane & Desseauve)

FR: Le 21 Août 2008 était la sortie du grand guide des vins de France 2009 de Michel Bettane et Thierry Desseauve. Ces deux experts sont connus de toute la profession et des amateurs de vins pour leur sérieux et intégrité. Voir Chambert y entrer est donc une belle petite victoire. Selon eux, Chambert est "une des marques phares des années 80 ayant sombré dans la routine mais sa reprise avec le concours de Stéphane Derenoncourt est en passe d’en faire une référence à nouveau !"

Cette critique objective résume en quelques mots toute la réalité de ce superbe domaine de Chambert qui a tout pour reprendre sa place de locomotive de Cahors.  Pour y arriver, un plan ambitieux de qualité a été lancé il y a déjà 15 mois et dont les premiers résultats visibles pour nos heureux clients sera dans le millésime 2007...à venir en 2009.
L’autre excellente nouvelle se trouve dans les notes de dégustations, le Château Chambert 2006 reçoit un 15,5/20 (10€ environ). Sachant que les Chambert 2004 et 2005 sont tout aussi bons, cela laisse une large palette de millésimes pour tous les amoureux de Chambert.
Enfin, et pour finir avec ce guide ; la dernière bonne nouvelle se trouve dans les commentaires de dégustations qui en quelques mots résument de façon limpide la typicité de Chambert : "…pas le plus foncé de l’appellation mais ses arômes d’épices et de violettes sont parmi les plus raffinés…un joli vin d’une élégance rare dans le secteur". EN: On August 21st, 2008 the prestigious Bettane & Desseauve French wine guide was out for sale. These two wine experts are very famous in France and Europe and are well known for their sharp expertise and integrity. Chambert just entered their guide this year, this is a significant milestone. From the guide, they present Chambert as "one of the top winery in the 80s that sunk into the routine but its recent resumption with the help of Stéphane Derenoncourt is about to make it a leader again !"

This description summarizes very well all the great potential at Chambert and the capacity to become a significant Cahors Malbec actor on the international scene. To reach this position, an ambitious quality-plan was started back in June 2007, first rewards will come when the 2007 vintage is introduced...in 2009.
The other great news is the Chambert 2006 that scored 15.5/20 (for apx. 10€). Since 2004 and 2005 vintages are as good, this leaves Chambert's wine lover a great panel of excellent wines.
Last but not least: the guide's tasting notes manage -in just few words- to spot the essence of Chambert's style: "...not the darkest wine of the appellation but its aromas of spices and violet are amongst the finest one, a pretty wine of a rare elegance".
